Get started with Review: your first manuscript
On this page
Use Review to explore manuscript analysis and identify findings that deserve editorial attention. Analysis supports your judgment; a flag is not a verdict about a manuscript or its authors.
Before you begin
- Confirm you are in the correct workspace or journal and have access to the manuscript.
- Follow your organization’s rules for handling confidential manuscripts and sharing analysis.
- If a manuscript is not available, use the missing or processing manuscript checklist rather than resubmitting it without guidance.
1. Open the manuscript workspace
Locate the manuscript you intend to assess and confirm its identifying information. Use the dashboard glossary to orient yourself to the available sections.
2. Work through actionable analysis
Triage supports actionable checks, including Journal Fit, Submission Consistency, Writing Quality, and Citation Analysis. Use the relevant sections to decide what needs closer inspection; do not treat a summary as a substitute for reading supporting material.
Start with the Journal Fit guide and Writing Quality guide when those questions are relevant to your assessment.
3. Examine the evidence behind a finding
Check the source passage, reference, figure, or table associated with an issue. The Figure & Table Analysis guide explains checks and limitations. Keep editorial conclusions separate from automated indicators.
4. Ask focused follow-up questions
Use Manuscript AI Chat for focused questions and follow-up explanations. Verify factual claims against their sources. Digest is deprecated; for guidance on obtaining information through chat, see Getting Digest Information from Manuscript AI Chat.
5. Decide and document the next step
Use your organization’s established editorial process to record decisions and follow-up work. A successful first assessment leaves you with an understanding of the relevant findings, the evidence you checked, and any questions that require further investigation.
If a result is incomplete or unclear
Do not infer that an unavailable analysis means there are no issues. Note the manuscript identifier, affected section, and visible message, then contact your Hum Customer Success Manager through your approved private support channel.
